Description
Ridge Vineyards based in the Santa Cruz mountains (South of San Francisco) was established in 1962. Paul Draper took up the role of winemaker in 1969 and is still involved in making wines at the winery to this day. Ridge, like other California estates received almost instant praise in the world of wine after California performed so well in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting – beating some of France’s most revered wines. A personal favourite from the Ridge range, this Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly from the famed Monte Bello vineyard, and provides much of the intense, inky, deeply-flavoured fruit and powerful structure found in the estate’s iconic Monte Bello wine. The 2020 Estate Cabernet is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Merlot. The high portion of Cabernet Sauvignon gives classic cassis, cedar and blackberry, and a firm, compact structure to the palate that will last for 10-20 years if required.
