Description

Produced from over 60-year-old Monte bello vines in addition to other vines planted in the surrounding area, these 18 vineyard parcels form the Santa Cruz Mountains Vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon being the principal grape from these vineyards. In 2019 the region saw plenty of rain through the winter and spring but saw a warmer summer resulting in an excellent harvest. This wine is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. The high portion of Cabernet Sauvignon in this blend give plenty of cassis and toasted notes, while not overpowering for spending 16 months in American oak barrels. The plate has plenty of structure with dark berry fruits and well-integrated tannins that evolve. Decant before enjoying but this will continue to develop for the next 10-15 years. 14% ABV

Ridge Vineyards based in the Santa Cruz mountains (South of San Francisco) was established in 1962. Paul Draper took up the role of winemaker in 1969 and is still involved in making wines at the winery to this day. Ridge, like other California estates received almost instant praise in the world of wine after California performed so well in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting – beating some of France’s most revered wines.
