Description
A multi-vintage Champagne from one of the oldest houses in the town of Reims. This is a true classic, with an elegant bouquet and rich creamy notes across the palate. The reference to 244 is the number of blends they have made since their foundation in 1776. It’s 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot noir and 26% Meunier.
TASTING NOTE: A lovely Champagne colour in the glass with a fine bubble. On the nose: It’s vibrant ripe fruits such as peaches, and pear with a wild flour note of honeysuckle and lemon peel followed by some toasty nutty notes on the finish. On the palate: Rich and full with a medium body and texture, there are plenty of juicy flavours of apples and pear, along with the classic chalky minerality and medium acidity that create a silky mousse, followed by the autolytic notes of brioche, toasted walnut, and freshly baked baguette. 12.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This Champagne, with its rich and vibrant flavours, make for a perfect match with traditional Fish and Chips from your favourite local, but would also match with a fried halloumi toasty, with tomato jam and rocket. It’s ready to drink now and will continue to drink wonderfully into 2025.
ABOUT: Louis Roederer is a Champagne house who have been making great Champagne since 1776 and are based in Reims. The business is still family-owned; Frederic Rouzaud currently manages it with Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon managing the vineyards and making the wines. They are well respected for making delicious Champagnes, including a collaboration with Philippe Starck which is one to look out for, but also for biodynamic farming across their 240 hectares, eschewing the use of chemicals in the vineyards and winery as much as possible.
