A ripe and fruit driven wine from South Africa, with excellent balance and freshness too. Made using the classic Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon (43%), Merlot (36%), Petit Verdot (14%) and Malbec (7%) grapes in the sunny climes of the Stellenbosch wine region. With notes of blackberry, spice, herb and plum fruit, it is medium-full bodied with plenty of flavour and fine tannins without being austere. While South Africa is often considered part of the New World, in terms of vine growing, the vineyards here were established all the way back in 1682, beating many of the traditional French estates for longevity!
Rustenberg is a family-owned estate located near the Simonsberg Mountain, in Stellenbosch, 45 minutes east of Cape Town. The climate is hot compared to Bordeaux, with more sunshine giving a fuller, fruitier style of wine. The estate was established back in 1682, but in the 1940s the Barlow family purchased it, and have grown production since then. Murray Barlow is now in charge, making a range of excellent wines, largely from French grapes. Always a crowd pleaser and offering superb value, this makes a superb match for roasts or grilled halloumi. 14% ABV.
