Description

Stoneburn is a lovely Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at an excellent price, that is made by the renowned Hunter family, who are longstanding and respected winemakers. The vineyard for this wine lies on an old riverbed whose stones retain warmth and give the fruit a high degree of ripeness, hence the name.

TASTING NOTE: A bright, pale yellow/lemon colour with gentle green reflections. On the nose: it is expressive with intense aromatics of citrus (lime and grapefruit) and some passion fruit, with a hint of herb too, such as lemon thyme. On the palate: The palate is medium in body with lovely juicy fruit, fresh acidity, some citrus and ripe tropical notes, and a crisp, refreshing finish. There’s a slight saline note which adds to the refreshment. It is unoaked, fruity and youthful, an elegant wine which is dry but not austere.

FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVICE: With its citrus, herb and a slight saline note, the food pairing possibilities are endless. Try with summer and winter salads, fresh cheeses and tomato-based dishes, as well as green curries. The citrus and saline notes will go well with oysters but if they aren’t on the menu, a prawn or crab linguine would be fantastic, and a classic match, when it’s in season, is asparagus! Drink now or keep till Spring 2027. Serve at 7 or 8 degrees, or a little warmer if you would like to soften the natural Sauvignon Blanc acidity.

ABOUT: Stoneburn is a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made by the Hunter family, who are longstanding and respected winemakers. Irishman Ernie Hunter arrived in New Zealand in 1979, when Marlborough was a fledgling wine region (previously used for sheep-grazing and growing barley). Jane Hunter OBE has managed the estate since 1987, making fresh, elegant and complex wines that are hugely popular. The vineyard for this wine lies on an old riverbed; the stones retain warmth that is reflected back onto the vines, ensuring good ripeness, hence the name!
