Firstly, try the Lyme Bay refreshing English Sparkling as an aperitif. From the Devon coast, it’s a brilliant match with seafood canapes, shellfish or fish pies and for that reason is on many a good restaurant list.
Next, Ca dei Frati’s wonderful Brolettino from the shores of Lake Garda in northern Italy, and the native grape Turbiana. This sublime, peachy, flavoursome white is by the Dal Cero family, who are winemakers and restauranteurs in this popular area in Italy. They recommend pairing the Brolettino with earthy soups, pasta with white sauces, white meats or baked fish, which sounds good to us!
Finally, Izadi’s delicious Rioja Reserva. This is made by Lalo Anton family in the Basque area of Rioja. The Antons also happen to be restauranteurs and know a thing or two about food and wine pairing! Try this with grilled lamb chops, roast lamb or beef, or for a vegetarian match either stuffed mushrooms or bean casserole. It will also pair well with hard cheeses such as Manchego or long-matured cheddar should you wish to round the meal off in style!
