Guigal Wines

Guigal offers great high-quality wines and is one of the very best winemakers; we will have a look at some of the best wines from their collection.

Guigal, synonymous with Syrah and the Northern Rhone, encapsulates the spirit of Cote Rotie in the Rotie Brune et Blonde. This unique red, predominantly made with Syrah and a touch of white grape, offers a deep ruby hue and a savoury profile. Bursting with dark fruits like blackberries and cherries, it gains aromatic depth from Viognier and a 36-month barrel ageing process. The result is a wine that teases the senses with peppery notes and subtle vanilla spice, making it a standout in Guigal's selection.

Another popular choice from Guigal is the white wine of Condrieu. Home of the Viognier grape, this is a rich-scented wine which is hard to replicate, with notes of apricot and peach and hints of spice and white flowers. A light golden colour in the glass, there is an emphasis on stone fruit, fullness and smoothness on the palate with a moderate level of acidity. The alcohol level for this white is typically high compared to other whites, with a 14.5% alcohol level.

Guigal Heritage

The Guigal domain, founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Etienne Guigal, is a testament to the family's unwavering dedication to winemaking. Etienne crafted wine for 67 vintages in Cote-Rotie, laying the foundation for the family's success. When he was struck by temporary blindness, his son Marcel and his wife stepped in to expand the business. Their son Phillippe, born in 1975, is the current oenologist, proudly representing the third generation to carry on the family legacy.

The Guigal family headquarters are in Ampuis, just south of Lyon and in the northern section of the Rhone valley, not being far from the first square metres of the cellar that Etienne Guigal worked with, the history and soul of the Guigal family can be felt throughout the estate. With the same spirit, passion and enthusiasm, the family expertly matures and sells wine from the greatest conditions of the Rhone Valley.
