Louis Roederer Champagne

Louis Roederer is an independent champagne house with a good reputation for producing quality products since being founded in 1776. A family-owned house is now operated under the seventh generation of the family to run the business and is producing highly reputable products such as Cristal, once an intensely sweet wine that is now one of the most impressive and flavoured champagnes available, with the most impressive additions being the ’88, ’89 and ’90 as they are among the greatest Cristals ever released. After making wine in the past, the family now exclusively produces some of the best champagnes, remaining one of the few independent and family-run champagne producers.

Solely focusing on champagne, Louis Roederer has made a great reputation for the business by producing products that are impressive from their design to their taste. Here, we will look at some of the most prestigious and well-received products that they have to offer.

Previously mentioned, Cristal is one of the most important products for Louis Roederer due to the impact it has had on their reputation. A sophisticated wine offering both power and delicacy, Cristal is the house's most famous wine, created in 1876. It was produced to satisfy the demands of Tsar Alexander II, the Emperor of Russia and King of Poland. The champagne also came in a flat-bottomed, transparent bottle to make it distinguishable. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are uniquely produced during the best years and will have met their perfect maturity, creating a balanced and refined champagne with a silky texture and fruity aromas. Cristal is aged for 6 years, with an extra 8 months after further processing.

Another great product from Louis Roederer would be the Cristal Medallion; the medallion bottle is 24-carat gold with a jewel-like appearance. Each bottle is 100% handcrafted, with each separate bottle taking 4 days to make, showing the dedication and passion the team has for creating quality products. This wine is described as silky, precise, and delicate, being extremely flavoursome with tastes of ripe fruits, white chocolate, and caramel, which is typical of Cristal. Produced in 2002, the harvest of this year was exceptional as temperatures were warm, without a huge amount of sun, a mild winter and slight rain through the growing cycle. These conditions help produce the best possible product, refining the perfection of the process.

Louis Roederer Heritage

Inheriting the house in 1833, Louis Roederer used a visionary and entrepreneurial mindset to enrich the vines, aiming to master every part of the creation process. He created the wine's unique character, style and taste. Unlike other houses at the time that brought their grapes, Louis Roederer invested in his own vineyards, nurturing them and understanding his own vineyards' special characteristics. Roederer's principle was that all great wines depend on specific factors such as the passion for tradition, the quality of the soil and a vision for the future. The reputation of the house was firmly established with the house continuing to produce some of the best products coming from Reims in France.
