Description
Travel through a fine wine region or style each month with these half bottles, by producers who have forged the vinous way to our hearts. Delicious wines, often made in relatively limited quantities, that really show what the particular region or style is about. The wines can be white, red or a mix depending on the region. Electronic tasting notes and guided, online tastings (a mix of live and recorded tastings) are included, all hosted by our Director and Master of Wine, Vicki.
NOVEMBER SELECTION: Wines of Portugal
For the November case, we have four delicious and different wines from Portugal. They include a benchmark Vinho Verde, the unique, extremely refreshing white from the north of the country. It’s great with seafood, or try the traditional dish of Portugal, chicken piri-piri, or a thai green curry. This is made by Quinta do Ameal (see the photo above) which is owned by the Roquette family. They are also responsible for our next wine, the Esporao Monte Velho Tinto, a juicy, fruity red that is perfect for a midweek tipple.
Given the theme is Portugal, and that the festive period is almost here, the case wouldn’t be complete without some fortified wines….For something entirely different, we have an aged white port, the Dona Antonia ten-year-old by Ferreira, who are the oldest port house in existence. We showed this wine at a tasting in the Summer and we all fell in love with it, so we’re looking forward to showing it to you too! It tastes similar to a tawny port, so it’s a good wine for a cheese/nut board, creme brulee or fruit cake. Most importantly, it is truly delicious, and extremely giftable (see photo below), should you be more generous than me and wish to spoil a loved one!
Lastly, a classic that will be perfect at Christmas, the Graham’s Quinta do Malvedos Vintage Port 2012. This is a traditional, richly-flavoured red port. It’s great with stilton and blue cheeses, or try it with a chocolate gateau!
This month’s virtual tasting will be on Wednesday 13th November at 8pm with our Director Vicki as well as one of the producers from the case. The tasting is via zoom and instructions will be sent via email prior to the event. The 75-minute tasting will be recorded and will be available to watch on replay for those who purchase.
