Travel through a fine wine region in detail each month with these half bottles, by producers who have forged the vinous way to our hearts. Delicious wines, often made in relatively limited quantities, that really show what the particular region is about. The wines can be white, red or a mix depending on the region. Electronic tasting notes and an optional, guided, online tasting hosted by our Director and Master of Wine, Vicki and one of our producers will accompany this selection, bringing you the lowdown to the region and these great wines.
JULY SELECTION: RHONE VALLEY
This month we are exploring the regions of the Rhone Valley. Try a superb Cote du Rhone Reserve Blanc from Famille Perrin; this is a remarkably fresh and flavourful white wine from the Cotes du Rhone, a blend made of Grenache blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. Then to Saint Joseph in the Northern Rhone for Domain Bernard Gripa. The Gripa family have winemaking in their blood, having grown vines in the village of Mauves since the 17th Century. Next is Domaine du Murinais Crozes-Hermitage, a wine with ripe black fruits, pepper, and a touch of Syrah spiciness. Lastly, we head to the Southern Rhone for Domaine de Grand Tinel’s Chateauneuf-du-Pape. A bold and powerful wine with a spicy nose, but velvety and rich across the palate with plenty of ripe fruits. This month’s virtual, informal tasting with our Director Vicki will be on Wednesday 13th July at 8pm (there will also be a speaker from one of the wineries to discuss one of the wines in particular). The recording will also be available on demand to watch afterwards.
