Description

A benchmark style of Muscadet from Jean-Francois and Claudine Baron in the Loire Valley. This is dry, crisp, clean, light and extremely refreshing. It has high natural acidity, so pair it with creamy pasta, cheesy dish or hearty bean soup for food and wine heaven!

TASTING NOTE: A light yellow colour with hints of green On the nose: this wine is fresh and, while not expressive at the start, shows plenty of lime, lemon, granny smith apples and thyme when you smell the glass for a second time. On the palate: it is bone dry, crisp, light and high in acidity but as with many great Muscadets, there is surprising depth and length of flavour, and is not to be underestimated! Unoaked as is typical, and slips down very easily indeed!

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is relatively light in body with high natural acidity, and very dry. Typical matches include Atlantic oysters given the proximity of the Atlantic coast to the vineyards of Muscadet, or other seafood dishes, such as oysters, scallops or salmon and green beans. You could also try it with goat’s cheese in a similar manner to Sancerre’s Crottin de Chavignol. Drink now or till Winter 2025.

ABOUT: Jean-Francois and Claudine Baron are based in the Muscadet area of the western part of the Loire Valley. They are 4th generation winemakers, specialising in the Muscadet Sur Lie style which is Muscadet wine that is aged for a longer time on its fermentation lees, imparting flavour and depth to a wine that is very crisp and dry indeed. They farm sustainably and are certified ‘Haute Valeur Environnementale’, referring to the minimal use of synthetic fertilisers and herbicides, and the promotion of biodiversity in the vineyards.
