Description
This is a white burgundy from the Meursault appellation in the heart of the Cotes de Beaune. Alongside the neighbouring villages of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet, Meursault is renowned for producing some of the greatest examples of Chardonnay in the world.
TASTING NOTE: This quintessential example from the Drouhin estate is absolutely sublime, opening with aromas of honey, hazelnut butter and chamomile. One of Meursault’s signatures is the savoury, nutty characteristics which it develops ageing in barrel, in this case 12 months in 25% new oak, and here this is balanced with a silky finish which lingers with flavours of yellow plum and gingerbread. 13.5% ABV.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Oaky wines such as this Mersault pair well with seafood, poultry and creamy pasta dishes. The wines from this harvest are well-balanced ad show an excellent ageing potential.
ABOUT: Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune at the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negociant business which is now in the hands of his four great grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic. The family own vineyards throughout Burgundy including the prestigious Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot appellations.
