Description
Domaine des Deux Roches translates as ‘Estate of the Two Rocks’, a reference to the position of this wine estate between the two distinctive, rocky escarpments of Solutre and Vergisson, in the Maconnais area of southern Burgundy. Owners of the Domaine, Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray make this great Saint-Veran, a white that beats many other more famous Burgundies for sheer deliciousness.
TASTING NOTES: With plenty of classic citrus notes, this Chardonnay is ripe, round, and full of juicy pear and peach fruit, and crisp acidity to give a lovely fresh feel. The Chardonnay is sourced from a selection of vineyards with various plots throughout the relatively small appellation of Saint-Veran. 13% ABV.
FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVICE: This is an allrounder of a wine, to suit most occasions and will match pork dishes and fruit-based sauces perfectly. The touch of oak gives almond and nut hints that suit nut/seed-based salads and vegetable dishes too.
ABOUT: ABOUT: The Chardonnay is sourced from a selection of vineyards with various plots throughout the relatively small appellation of Saint-Veran. The grapes were pressed very slowly and gently in order not to damage the skins nor release bitter components into the wine. It was fermented in French oak barrels, and after fermentation the wine then spent an additional 8 months in barrel where it mellowed and allowed the natural fruit, structure and acidity to mesh together. 20% of the oak was new meaning a delicious toasty note in the wine.
