Description
Bright, zesty and easy to enjoy, this classic Bordeaux Blanc blends Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle for a refreshing take on white Bordeaux. With notes of elderflower, ripe peach and a gentle herbaceous lift, it’s a versatile white that works just as well with food as it does as a chilled aperitif.
TASTING NOTE: In the glass, Chateau Reynier’s Bordeaux Blanc has a fairly pale but bright lemon-green colour. On the nose, it is fresh and almost pungent, brimming with peachy notes, just-mown grass, elderflower, and herbaceous aromas, with a tiny hint of beeswax. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with fairly high acidity typical of a wine with much Sauvignon Blanc, well-balanced by juicy, peachy fruit and a moderate alcohol level of 12%. It is dry but not austere, generally fruity, and very easy to drink in style. A good (and good-value) alternative to Loire whites, for example. 12% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: A refreshing, fruity, intense Sauvignon Blanc that will pair with quite a few dishes or work well as an aperitif, nicely chilled to about 8 degrees. For local food matches, try oysters if you’re splashing out, with a simple squeeze of lemon or a sprig of dill. Other seafood dishes would also work well, such as pan-fried Atlantic fish or grilled salmon. A classic match, borrowed from the Loire Valley, for Sauvignon is young goat’s cheese. The Bordeaux goat’s cheese is Tome de Bordeaux; this and a winter salad would be perfect. For a vegan match, try either a bean salad or a green curry.
ABOUT: Located in the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation, Chateau Reynier dates back to the 15th century. Today, this small family winery is in the capable hands of Marc Lurton, an international wine consultant and descendant of the great wine-growing Lurton family. He is joined by his wife Agnès and, more recently, by their daughter Pauline, the sixth generation of the family. With 99 acres of vines planted on clay and limestone slopes, the estate is known for its supple reds and refreshing whites, such as this wine made from classic white grapes: Sauvignon Blanc (70%), Semillon (25%), and Muscadelle (5%).
