Description
A lesser-seen side of Chassagne-Montrachet, this characterful red offers bright berry fruit, subtle spice and a touch of savoury herb from old-vine Pinot Noir. Balanced and expressive, its firm structure is great for ageing and matching meats or earthy dishes.
TASTING NOTE: A pretty, medium-to-deep red colour. On the nose: Subtle but complex array of aromas: red fruits, blackcurrant, plum, with savoury herby notes (thyme and rosemary) too, and a floral, almost violet hint. On the palate: It’s medium in body, with firm structure from well balanced tannins, fresh acidity, moderate alcohol and juicy berry fruit flavours. There’s a hint of spice from ageing in oak barrels. But, overall, it’s about the berry fruits, substantial but fine-textured tannins and long, juicy finish. Yum! 13% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: The medium body of Pinot Noir means it suits a variety of foods, rather than overpowering them (or being overpowered). Try this with meatier fish such halibut or seabass, with cold meats and ham, or with curried chicken/turkey. Vegetarian dishes and cheese match equally well, such as bubble and squeak, mushroom pastas, roast root vegetable traybake, or a feta salad. Frankly, however, it’s delicious on its own, decanted for an hour or so before serving. Drink now or keep till 2028.
