Description
Our first wine from the 2025 vintage! This is a Beaujolais Villages Nouveau. Nouveau literally means ‘new’ and refers to the youngest wines, harvested and vinified just weeks ago, and released when young and fresh. The official release date for the Nouveau wine is Thursday 20th at 12.01am, and the day is celebrated with numerous parties or ‘Fetes du Beaujolais’ in France and abroad, as people race to be the first to try the new vintage.. We’re delighted to have half bottles from our trusty grower, Andre Colonge, from their ‘villages’ level vineyards, ie a step up from standard Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s fun, fruity and refreshing, with finesse too, at a modest price given its early release. Santé!
TASTING NOTE: Fresh and fruity with attractive, intense cherry and berry aromas, this is a vibrant and seductive Beaujolais Villages, light-bodied, elegant and packed with flavour. 12% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVING: Serve with a plate of young/creamy cheeses, or with a bowl of red berries. Beaujolais, and particularly the Nouveau wines, are great chilled, in this case to around 12-13 degrees C. It’s meant to be drunk young and fresh, although you can keep it till Summer 2026, no problem at all.
ABOUT: Domaine Andre Colonge is a family estate with a history of growing wine dating back to 1789. Serge, Samuel and Landry Colonge’s estate is based at Lancie in the Beaujolais region of France, which sits just to the south of Burgundy and to the north of the Rhone Valley regions. Their 37 hectares (approximately 90 acres) of land covers different vineyards in the Crus (the best appellations) of Fleurie and Brouilly, plus the broader Beaujolais Villages and Beaujolais appellations. This is the first wine they have released from this year, and 2025 looks like being a fine vintage, with lovely ripe grapes, although the crop was slightly smaller than usual, so we are delighted to have our hands on this little parcel of Nouveau!
