Description
A bold, black-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley that is ready to drink at almost ten years of age. It’s a blend of the best fruit from Long Meadow Ranch’s Mayacamas Mountains and valley floor (Rutherford) vineyards, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
TASTING NOTE: Deep ruby colour in the glass. On the nose, there are generous amounts of berry fruits (red and black cherries and raspberry leaf) and spices such as nutmeg and anise from oak ageing. Savoury, aged notes of leather, cedar, tobacco and a little earthiness add complexity. On the palate, it’s medium to full in body, the tannins are welcoming and smooth, with bright acidity and 13.5% alcohol to provide balance. Subtle earthy notes carry through to a long finish of cedar and clove.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVING: The estate recommends beef, braised lamb shanks or roasted game to enjoy with this wine. For a vegetarian option, a flavoursome Moussaka would also be an inviting pairing. This wine is ready to drink now, no need to decant, but it will keep until 2028.
ABOUT: The estate covers a vast 2,000 acres of vineyards in the Napa and Anderson Valleys, which include olives, vines and more land designated for other fruit and vegetables, which is all farmed via certified organic farming methods. With its history going back to prohibition, the Hall family bought the estate in 1989 and restored the winery and vineyard soils to the healthy, fertile, productive land it is today. Currently they have planted a broad range of grape varieties including Bordeaux red varietals, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. This Cabernet Sauvignon has spent 18 months in French oak, of which 50% was in new oak barrels.
