This juicy and complex Malbec is a fine example of what the Malbec grape variety can achieve at lofty altitudes and is packed full of fruits of the forest, plum, spice and floral flavours. The acidity is fresher than that of wines from the warmer, lower-lying area of Mendoza which leads to a vibrant and approachable food friendly wine.
Finca Sophenia focus on sustainable production practices and produce a range of high altitude and highly acclaimed wines at around 1200 metres in the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza, specifically in the Gualtallary part of the Uco Valley where the excellent quality of wines has led to significant interest and investment in the vineyards here. Former President of the Wines of Argentina, Roberto Luka founded Finca Sophenia in 1997 and named it after his daughter Eugenia and business partner Gustavo Benvenuto’s daughter Sophia. The wines tannins are sweet and rounded, but overall, this is a hearty, gutsy style of Malbec that would be best accompanied by barbecued meats with sweet sauce or red game meat stews. Drink now or keep till 2025. 14% ABV.
