Description
This is a superb Italian red wine made from the local Italian grape varieties Corvina (45%), Corvinone (40%), Rondinella (15%) which contribute to an incredible bouquet of blackberry and dark cherries. A medium bodied wine with supple, light tannins and plenty of flavour and character while delightfully refreshing with well integrated alcohol.
Located in the hills of North-eastern Italy in the Veneto region, Ca’Rugate is a family-owned estate named after the ‘Rugate’ – a large hill near the winery that has distinctive dark, volcanic soils. Ca ‘Rugate is owned by Michele Tessari and family, who have vineyards (just over 200 acres) in Soave and Valpolicella. There are several styles of wines made in Valpolicella: Valpolicella, as here, a light red wine; Amarone della Valpolicella, a concentrated, high alcohol wine with a tiny touch of sweetness, made from dried grapes; Valpolicella Ripasso, a normal Valpolicella wine to which grape skins from the Amarone process are added, and finally a sweet wine, Recioto di Valpolicella. Drink slightly chilled in summer as an aperitif or as a great match for pizza or antipasti. 13% ABV.
