ABOUT: Classically trained musician and architect Franca Miretti now looks after the historic estate of Cantina del Pino after the passing of her winemaker husband Renato Vacca in 2020. The estate has a history that goes back to the 1920s when it was founded by the Vacca family. After studying winemaking in Alba, and working in the Barbaresco region, Renato decided it was time to try his own methods and ideas in both the vineyard and cellar. With help from their parents and a small team from the region, the pair focused the attention of the estate specifically on the vineyards surrounding the Ovello hill, one of the oldest and most well-known wine-growing sites in Barbaresco due to its unique soils and cooler microclimate.
