Description
From the mountainous Alto Adige region, and produced by Cantina Terlano, this blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 30% Chardonnay, and 10% Sauvignon Blanc has weight and a smooth, almost viscous texture. It’s a truly delicious wine and a unique blend. Move over, white Burgundy!
TASTING NOTE: A light golden yellow colour in the glass. On the nose: Aromas of green apple, peach from the Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay, lemon and even a hint of herbs such as mint from the small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate: This has a lovely smooth, almost viscous texture with a fairly full body, but with the freshness of the chilly Dolomite mountains and also the Sauvignon Blanc variety, both providing great acidity in the wines and a generous, fruity long finish. 13.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a very food-friendly wine, as it has good weight as well as freshness and acidity. It’s brilliant with turkey breast and roasted root vegetables so would work well at Christmas and will also match creamy pasta with parmesan very well. Drink now or keep till 2025.
ABOUT: Cantina Terlano is a long-established cooperative (founded in 1893) with a strong focus on quality; it’s based in the village of Terlano, hence the name, in Alto Adige (aka Sudtirol or South Tyrol). This is just to the north of the Trentino region (often the two are grouped as Trentino Alto Adige, as they are quite similar in climate and topography). There are now 143 growers in the cooperative, farming 165 hectares, focusing on white varieties with 75% of the area dedicated to white grapes and 25% to red grapes.
