Description
This 100% Pinot Grigio from producer Mezzacorona, from Trentino at the foot of the Dolomites, in the Alto Adige region of Northern Italy. This wine is great for a midweek supper or to enjoy on its own while soaking up the sunshine.
TASTING NOTE: Light yellow in colour. On the nose: Delicious pear, apple, lemon, and camomile aromas. It’s young and fresh and, while not very intense, is an elegant, fragrant wine. On the palate: It’s light to medium in body with juicy citrus and pear fruit. There is plenty of freshness and acidity that balances well with the depth of fruit flavour. It’s a dry wine that is delicate but has lots of flavour and a long, lingering finish. Smooth in texture and easy to drink but not a bland nor sharp wine. Very well-balanced. 12.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Mezzacorona suggests pairing this with a salmon and avocado salad or, for a vegetarian option, wild herb dumplings with melted butter and sage, which are classic for Trentino. It’s drinking very well now but would keep easily till Autumn 2024. Best enjoyed chilled between 7 and 9 degrees.
ABOUT: The producer for this lovely fresh Pinot Grigio is Mezzacorona. They make the wine from the Adige Valley in Trentino DOC, where they are based. Mezzacorona was founded in 1904 when a small group of 13 winemakers formed a winemaking cooperative here in Trentino, combining resources and collaborating. It’s now grown hugely so that there are now over 1500 growers who contribute their grapes to the cooperative, from Chardonnay to local Lagrein and Marzemino varieties.
