This is one of Argentina’s finest wines is this Malbec. From two different vineyards in Mendoza, produced by Catena Zapata. It’s a great shout if you are looking to explore both great Malbec and the potential for high quality that the mountainous vineyards of Mendoza can provide.
TASTING NOTE: It’s a deep and dense purple colour. On the nose: fresh black fruits, and plums with notes of warm spices (cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg) On the palate: well-structured and fresh with juicy acidity but with just as much finesse and fruit intensity. 13.5% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVING: A very versatile wine that pairs wonderfully with many dishes or enjoyed on its own without food. Try with a grilled striploin steak or earthy vegetable dish. Decant for an hour before serving and enjoy now until 2026.
ABOUT: Catena Zapata is arguably the most famous and influential of Argentinian wineries. Current owner Nicolas Catena Zapata’s grandfather sailed from Italy to Argentina. In 1902, he planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza. He, his grandson Nicolas, and great-granddaughter Laura (the current owners) have championed Malbec across the wine industry and pioneered the concept of high-altitude Malbec.
