Description
This is a classic Crozes-Hermitage, from M. Chapoutier in the Northern Rhone. Made from 100% Syrah it’s full of fruit flavour. It’s a versatile wine that’s a great food match, especially with grilled food, perfect for a cooler summer evening!
TASTING NOTE: A deep ruby, almost purple colour in the glass. On the nose: Intense ripe berry fruits such as blackberry, raspberry, and blackcurrants with soft notes of cinnamon and dried herbs. On the palate: Follows the nose with plenty more of the berry fruits that are wrapped with complex fresh herb flavours of thyme and sage. This is a full-bodied wine with medium acidity and firm tannins once opened but becomes silky as this wine develops in the glass with a long fresh finish with soft warm spiced notes. 12.5% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: M. Chapoutier suggests that this wine will match all meats and poultry as well as cooked pork dishes and several cheeses. We would suggest pairing this wine with warm, spice-rubbed pork shoulder or spicy pulled pork, also try this with an Indian-inspired Paneer Korma with basmati rice. Decant for an hour or so before serving. It will keep well into 2025 if you decide to cellar.
ABOUT: Soon after joining Delepine et Chapoutier in 1897. Marius Chapoutier soon took over the business and purchased the new estate of M. Chapoutier at the base of the Hermitage Hill in 1929. Since then, the generations of family have maintained and worked the estate converting the property to full biodynamic practices as of 1990. As of 1998, the family have branched out to not only vineyards throughout France but the wine world. Today Mathilde and Maxime Chapoutier continue the philosophy and vision based on the concept of terroir.
