Description
A classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that benefitted from ageing in oak barrels for 18 – 22 months. This adds to the vanilla and toasty complexity of the wine. This is really such a lovely red Bordeaux, and exceptional value. Think Saint Emilion in structure and charm, but at a very fair price. It’s a great all-round red that works well for a Bordeaux lover or for food-matching and particularly Sunday roasts or steak.
TASTING NOTES: This elegant Bordeaux is juicy with lovely notes of ripe plum and herb along with layers of liquorice and vanilla. The tannins are noticeable but well-balanced giving gentle structure to the wine, otherwise it’s silky textured on the palate and delicious.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This pairs itself wonderfully with game casserole or any lamb or beef dish. It is drinking very well now but will improve for a few more years in bottle if you can resist!
ABOUT: Château Montaiguillon is a small family-owned estate on the outskirts of the medieval village of Saint-Emillion. It has a beautiful and well-placed spot on the top of a hill overlooking the famed estates of Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Petrus. The soil here is composed of mostly clay and limestone which is perfect for the growing of Merlot – the predominant grape used in this area of Bordeaux. The property is owned by the Amart family and is currently under the reigns of third generation Chantal Amart with consultation from the internationally renowned Michael Rolland. The property was bought in 1949 by Chantal’s great grandfather. This is a perennially popular Bordeaux which is excellent value, just a hop away from considerably more glamorous vineyards of Saint Emilion.
