Named after Marjorie Gerrie, founder Paul Gerrie’s mother. This vineyard site is arguably the best Pinot Noir of the single vineyards produced by Cristom. It’s not quite as cool as the Eileen vineyard being just below it in altitude. The fruit from this site still benefits from the Pacific Ocean winds and deep volcanic soils meaning a fine, fresh, concentrated style. Lots of red fruit character, very floral on the nose and elegant on the palate. Slightly less tannin than the Eileen vineyard but masses of fruit intensity meaning it will last as long. Pair this wine alongside harissa roasted beetroot and butternut squash salad with arugula and goat cheese. Drink now till 2026. 14%ABV
Cristom Vineyards was set up in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, by Paul and Eileen Gerrie in 1992 and they are now producing some of the most sought-after Pinot Noirs coming out of the USA. The Pinot Noir from these vineyards particularly offers a fragrant style from the Eola-Amity Hills in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Their wines are midway between the slightly lighter-bodied Burgundian style and the richer, powerful Pinots from warmer sites of Oregon and California. They farm their different vineyards both organically and biodynamically and then vinify the wines in a similar fashion in the cellar so that the differences in the resulting wines are really down to the unique potential of each vineyard, rather than the hand of the winemaker. Cristom wines have trademark red and black fruits of Pinot Noir with a spicy, herby overlay that results in a particularly complex, aromatic style to linger over. They have won frequent awards with the critics, 94 or 95 points with the major publications, but we love them for the array of aromas and flavours that are endlessly fascinating to sniff, smell and savour over time!
