Description
TASTING NOTE: An appealing pale yellow colour in the glass. On the nose: this wine has a vibrant mineral quality, with elegant floral notes such as jasmine and rose, plus fruity hints of peach, lemon and tangerine. You may also discern a minute hint of hazelnut or almond from moderate oak ageing. On the palate: it is light-to-medium in body, is crisp, dry and fresh, with good natural acidity. It doesn’t have the finesse of some of the famous white Burgundies such as Puligny-Montrachet (hence it is a fraction of the price!), but has charming citrus fruit flavours and a mouthwatering juiciness that lasts well on the long, refreshing finish. 13% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORAGE AND SERVICE: White Burgundy can match many a meal, from poultry to lemony fish dishes. This wine is a super match for roast chicken, grilled fish and shellfish, creamy pasta dishes and goats cheese. Drink now or till end of 2026.
ABOUT: Domaine de Montorge was established in 1972 by the Flandre family. It remains a family-run vineyard in the Montagny appellation, within Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise area. The entire estate of 13 hectares is classified Premier Cru, making delicious white wines from the Chardonnay grapes. Since 2014, it has been run by Yann Flandre. Yann is keen to promote biodiversity and sustainable practices, such as organic farming, planting via higher trellises to encourage aeration and disease prevention in the vineyard, and planting grass between vines. He also harvests slightly later than some of his neighbours, which is riskier given the onset of autumnal weather, but results in a lovely ripe style of wine.
