This is a classic Northern Rhone red that really shows off why the Syrah grape variety thrives in this region. It has lovely blackberry aromas with a hint of liquorice and black pepper, and a relatively full body balanced by firm tannins and fresh acidity, all of which are perfectly integrated from 6 months’ ageing in old French oak barrels. Overall a very elegant wine with 14% alcohol and plenty of flavour too.
Etienne Pochon is based at Chateau Curson in Crozes Hermitage on the left bank of the Rhone river. He traditionally sold his grapes to the local cooperative, before deciding to keep them for himself and make his own wine. A quality-conscious grape grower, now certified Organic, his wines are elegant and suitable for ageing if you have the patience. A fantastic match with roast duck, a good steak or hearty grilled vegetable dishes, it is best with food and will benefit from being decanted for around an hour before serving. It can be kept until 2024 and is a fantastic value, classic Crozes Hermitage to enjoy. 14% ABV.
