Description
Domaine Filliatreau is a large estate of around 50 hectares located close to the city of Saumur. Frédrik Filliatreau is the fourth generation to run the estate and his main focus is to make a light, bright style of Cabernet Franc for early drinking. The domaine has moved its viticulture gradually in a more natural direction and is currently converting to Organic status.
TASTING NOTE; This delicious Cabernet Franc has appealing strawberry and raspberry fruit with darker blackberry notes too. Medium bodied with fine-grained tannins, this is made in such an easy drinking, refreshing style. 13% ABV.
FOOD PAIRING, SERVICE AND STORAGE: It would be perfect accompanied with salads, meats and grilled fish or soft cow cheeses. Serve slightly chilled and best enjoyed now or within the next two years.
ABOUT: From one of the few places in the world specialising in Cabernet Franc as a single variety, the Loire Valley is a great choice for easy drinking refreshing reds. Saumur Champigny is one of the most regarded vineyard areas in the Loire; the vineyards sit by the Loire river and the town of Saumur, which is sandwiched between Angers (to the west) and Tours (to its East). When Paul Filliatreau (Fredrik’s Father) took over this domaine in the 1960’s he was one of the first to make and experiment with a fruity, easy drinking, lighter tannin examples of Cabernet Franc and the style really took off.
