Description
The Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a treat from the 2022 vintage. It’s a wine from the original parcel the Jadot family has owned since founding the domaine in 1859. These bottles are therefore part of the Heritiers (‘heirs’) holding, which the family were canny enough to keep for themselves, when the commercial side of the business was sold in the 1980s. A rare treat in 37.5cl, this is starting to drink now with decanting, otherwise store it till 2030 if you’d like to enjoy the classic honey, truffle and spice flavours that emerge with fine white Burgundy over time.
TASTING NOTE: Corton-Charlemagne, sitting high on the hill of Corton with its chalky soils and sun-soaked slopes, remains one of the great sources of white Burgundy, and some of the finest white wines in the world. The 2022 has plenty of classic apple, citrus and honeyed notes, balanced by freshness and fine structure. It’s powerful with lovely flavour richness but is still fresh, and it’s particularly expressive in half bottle. 13.5% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVING: 2022 is a generous, ripe vintage, making this approachable now with a short period of decanting, but it will also cellar beautifully. If storing, keeping up until 2030.
ABOUT: Louis Jadot was founded in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in 1859. After 30 years with Pierre-Henry Gagey running the business, it is now Thomas Seiter who manages things. Jadot produce wines from 150+ appellations, from Beaujolais-Villages to Grand Cru Le Musigny. Since 1985, the core business has been owned by an American family, the Kopfs, who invested further in vineyards, although look out for the ‘Heritiers’ bottlings (marked on the bottom of the label) that are from the original vineyards that the Jadots wisely kept, when they sold the estate and business.
