Description

This Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre is an attractive yellow colour in the glass. Rather than overtly herby that some Sancerres can be, this wine is gently fruity with peach, and citrus notes, with a hint of jasmine and the typical mineral/wet stone character that is said to be from the chalky terroir (soils) of the region. The wine has a medium body with fresh acidity that balances well with the depth of fruit flavour along with creamy notes from time spent ageing on lees. It has a long, dry, refreshing finish. 12.5% ABV.

The Cherrier family have been making wine in Sancerre since 1848 but created the domaine as it is now, Domaine de la Rossignole, in 1927. Since 1980, the domaine has been run by Francois and Jean-Marie Cherrier, who focus on a low-key, natural approach in both the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have around 20 hectares of vineyards in the appellation of Sancerre (this is almost 50 acres) as well as vineyards in neighbouring Menetou-Salon, which makes a similar style of white, rose and red wines from the same grapes as Sancerre.
