Domaine Rossignole Sancerre 2020 HALF Bottle (37.5cl)

White, Loire, France

In stock

An approachable and fruity Sauvignon Blanc from the Sancerre region of the Loire Valley, produced by Domaine de la Rossignole. With creamy undertones, this makes a perfect match with fresh oysters or scallops.

TASTING NOTE: An attractive yellow colour in the glass. On the nose: Gently fruity with peach, apricot and citrus notes, a hint of jasmine and the typical mineral/wet stone character that is said to be from the chalky terroir (soils) of the region. On the palate: It’s medium-bodied with fresh acidity that balances well with the depth of fruit flavour (lemon and pear along with creamy notes from time spent ageing on the fermentation lees). It has a long, dry, refreshing finish. 14.5% alcohol by volume.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: A classic local pairing for this is a fresh goat’s cheese, nice and simple (and the Loire speciality goat’s cheese Crottin de Chavignol if you can find it)! Grilled fish dishes and fresh oysters would work well too. Also, try it with filo pastry turnovers with spinach and feta. But this is a beautifully balanced, creamy, fruity wine that also works well on its own. This wine is best enjoyed now or until spring 2024.

ABOUT: The Cherrier family have been making wine in Sancerre since 1848, but created the domaine as it is now, Domaine de la Rossignole, in 1927. Since 1980, the domaine has been run by Francois and Jean-Marie Cherrier, who focus on a low-key, natural approach in both the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have around 20 hectares of vineyards in the appellation of Sancerre (this is almost 50 acres) as well as vineyards in neighbouring Menetou-Salon, which makes a similar style of white, rose, and red wines from the same grapes as Sancerre.
