Description
TASTING NOTE: A freshy, fruity, youthful Grillo with pale, bright yellow/straw colour. On the nose: there is a fresh bouquet with attractive notes of peach, melon, lemon zest and blossom. You may also smell a slight herby character, which Donnafugata discern as mint but may present as mixed herb aromas. On the palate: it is dry, crisp in acidity, juicy and light to medium in body. There is a beautiful balance between freshness and peachy fruit, as well as moderate 12.5% alcohol. It has a long, mouthwatering finish, and is an elegant match for seafood especially, complementing not overpowering it
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: When you think of Sicily, you think of the sea and same goes for this wine. Its bright, zesty flavours and crisp acidity match with seafood especially. Try pairing this Grillo with traditional, Sicilian stuffed sardines, or grilled white fish and shellfish, or even simple, undressed poultry dishes. For a vegetarian option, try a mix of fresh/raw/young cheeses, a walnut and goats cheese salad or pasta and lemon dishes which will work brilliantly with the zest and herb component of the wine. Serve chilled between 8-10°C. It’s ready to drink now or keep it until the end of 2025
ABOUT: Donnafugata is a family producer with Jose Rallo and brother Antonio Rallo at the helm. It was founded by their father Giacomo in 1983, with his wife, Gabriella, a pioneer in Sicilian and female-led viticulture. They own five vineyards across Sicily, from Etna to Marsala to Pantelleria Island, giving a diverse, delicious) range of wines. The name Donnafugata means ‘woman on the run‘, referring to Maria Carolina, Queen of Naples (and sister of french Queen Marie-Antoinette) who fled to Sicily during the Neapolitan Revolution in 1799, hiding out in what are now Donnafugata’s vineyards!
