Description

A refreshingly crisp, unoaked white made from Viura, Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the highest altitude vineyard of El Coto in Rioja at 840 metres. It’s brimming with citrus fruit and is a simple yet successful pairing to fresh seafood.

TASTING NOTE: Soft yellow colour with almost lime green edges. On the nose: Filled with fruit notes such as peach, apricot, apple and a zingy sherbet and green candy aroma. On the palate: Lively and crisp with a light to medium body and bright acidity. It has flavours of peaches, apple, pineapple, and a subtle saline note that carries into a dry, refreshing finish.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a crisp and refreshing wine with plenty of fruity flavours. We suggest pairing it with grilled or fried calamari with a chilli, caper and lemon butter sauce, tempura vegetables or fresh, grilled sardines with a simple squeeze of lemon. Best enjoyed now but can be kept until summer 2025.

ABOUT: El Coto was founded in 1970. Founder Eduardo Santos-Ruiz and his team built El Coto into one of Rioja’s most popular estates. Today it is the largest landowner in the region, with more than 1800 acres across the three subzones of Rioja (Rioja Alta, Rioja Oriental and Rioja Alavesa), with various grapes being grown. While their reds are very good, this white, while being relatively humble in price, is an excellent, fresh example of unoaked modern Rioja, made at their Finca Carbonera winery. Winemaker is César Fernández.
