Travel through a fine wine region or style each month with these half bottles, by producers who have forged the vinous way to our hearts. Delicious wines, often made in relatively limited quantities, that really show what the particular region or style is about. The wines can be white, red or a mix depending on the region. Electronic tasting notes and guided, online tastings (a mix of live and recorded tastings) are included, all hosted by our Director and Master of Wine, Vicki. This month’s online tasting is this Thursday 22nd January at 8pm. 

JANUARY SELECTION: Pinot Gris

Start with Schlumberger for a flavoursome, textured Pinot Gris from Alsace. It’s food-friendly and delicious (curry, anyone?). Then to Italy, for Livio Felluga’s benchmark white from Colli Orientali in Friuli. Fine, floral, crisp and refreshing, this is an elegant wine from the Pinot Gris grape (here known as Pinot Grigio) that will confound your expectation of this variety. Next, to the Dolomite Mountains for an alpine white, the Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio. This is rounded and fruity, going exceedingly well with soft cheeses, creamy pasta and chicken dishes, as well as the local dumpling dishes. Finally, all the way over to Victoria, Australia, and the truly delicious Yabby Lake Pinot Gris by Tom Carson. Impossible not to love, this is a great seafood wine, with good weight, structure and refreshment. It’s a treat to include it in this month’s case.
