Travel through a fine wine region or style each month with these half bottles, by producers who have forged the vinous way to our hearts. Delicious wines, often made in relatively limited quantities, that really show what the particular region or style is about. The wines can be white, red or a mix depending on the region. Electronic tasting notes and guided, online tastings (a mix of live and recorded tastings) are included, all hosted by our Director and Master of Wine, Vicki.
APRIL SELECTION: Red Wines of Burgundy and Beaujolais
Firstly, there’s the perfumed, cherry fruit of Jean-Michel Dupre’s Beaujolais Villages ‘Vignes de 1940′. This is (perhaps unsurprisingly) named as the grapevines were planted all the way back in 1940. This longevity brings a lovely juicy flavour to the wine. Then, it’s up the A6 for an exploration of the Cote de Beaune region within Burgundy, with three delicious Pinot Noirs: Vincent Morey’s excellent Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge, Mark Haisma’s Pommard Premier Cru Les Arvelets. Finally, from nearby slopes, Domaine du Prieure’s Bourgogne Hautes Cote de Beaune. At up to 500 metres’ altitude, this area is increasingly prized to bring freshness to the wines, as the climate changes and vignerons adapt to new conditions. All four wines are extremely versatile, should you be planning some good meals over Easter!
The tasting in April is Wednesday, 23rd, online via zoom. We’ll be discussing Burgundy, its history and why the wines made there are so great, as well as chatting with one of the producers from the case. Details will be sent a week before the tasting to subscribers.
