Description
A lovely dry Bordeaux white wine made from a blend of Semillon (60%) and Sauvignon Blanc, by Chateau Guiraud, maker of fabulous dry and sweet wines at Premier Grand Cru level.
TASTING NOTE: It has an attractive pale lemon colour with deliciously fresh citrus, grapefruit, candied lemons and meringue aromas. The palate is rounded and juicy, with a smooth, almost viscous texture. It’s brimming with lime, grapefruit, lemon thyme, fresh pineapple and tiny savoury hints of flint and woodsmoke. It’s fairly full and very long, with naturally fresh acidity to provide balance. A typically fine, complex white Bordeaux that is easy to love from the off. 13%.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: It is a brilliant aperitif as we move towards summer and also a great food wine. Try with chicken or pork dishes, or for a more typical Bordeaux match, oysters!
ABOUT: ‘G de Guiraud’, as it’s often called, was fermented and then aged for 6 months on lees, half in stainless steel tanks and the other half in barrels from the Château’s ‘Grand Vin’. 2023 was a reasonably warm year and so there was no malolactic fermentation, to preserve the precious natural acidity. July & August were both dry, warm months, and the harvest started on 24th August and went through to 15th September. A good quality year with lovely wines, as this wine will attest!
