Description
At 15 years old, this Vintage Port is ready to drink and delicious, but will keep another 3-4 years. It’s known as a ‘Single Quinta’ ie all the grapes are from one very highly-rated vineyard, rather than from across the Douro wine region as per many other ports. A treat for Christmas and perfect decanted and paired with a cheeseboard.
TASTING NOTE: This Graham’s vintage port has a dark red core with a hint of garnet along the rim. On the nose: It is aged and satisfying, with layers of fruit, spice, earth and woody aromas, and particularly black cherry, dark chocolate, liquorice and woodsmoke. On the palate: it is medium in body with a juicy fruit character. The 15 years of age has given a lovely complex, rich flavour and has mellowed the tannins, ensuring a smooth, velvety texture, with cherry and chocolate flavours revealing themselves on the long, delicious finish. 20% alcohol.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This vintage port pairs beautifully with chocolate mousse, blue cheese and dark chocolate but it’s so complex and delicious and so we’d recommend enjoying it on its own, sipped over an evening or two. Serve at around 14-16°C and decant to filter the natural sediment before serving. Consume within 2-3 days of opening. Enjoy this port now or keep for a further 3-4 years.
ABOUT: J Graham, known most often as Graham’s is a port producer that was founded in 1820. It now belongs to the Symington family, who have both British and Portuguese roots (there are now 10 members of the Symington working in the family business!). They are owners of several great port houses (i.e. the companies who vinify and age the port) and also individual vineyards where their grapes are grown, known as Quintas), across the Douro Valley. Quinta dos Malvedos has been the cornerstone of Graham’s Vintage Ports ever since it was acquired in 1890.
