Description
What a delicious wine this is! A fascinating blend of Bordeaux grapes Malbec (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), Cabernet Franc (25%) plus a splash of Merlot and Petit Verdot. It has enticing blackberry notes on the nose, along with plum, cherry, herb and red berries too. It has masses of character and succulent flavour, along with firm structure and oak spice that all remind us of great Bordeaux meshed with New World fruitiness. It’s elegant and well balanced with 14% alcohol. A fine, ageworthy red to match the classics. Drink now with an hour’s decanting, or keep till 2029.
El Enemigo is a project by Adrianna Catena, of famed Argentinian producer Catena Zapata, and winemaker Alejandro Vigil, who also heads up the winemaking at Catena. They use Bordeaux grapes grown in the high-altitude vineyards (between a lofty 930 and 1470 metres altitude) of Gualtallary and the Uco Valley of Argentina, to make wines that rival the best of Bordeaux. Quantities are small and the wines are impressive, with long barrel-ageing adding to the considerable intensity of flavour and structure; thus, alongside drinking them, cellaring these wines will bring ample reward.
