Description

This fresh and fruity Sauvignon Blanc has appealing aromatics of tropical fruits, grapefruit and gooseberry. It is refreshing, medium-full bodied with an impressively long, juicy finish, and is drinking well now but will keep over the next 18 months. This zesty and aromatic wine is a great aperitif but would also be a perfect seafood wine and could stand up to the addition of chilli, spices and and strong sauces. 13% ABV.

Mike Tiller and his wife Robyn established this estate in the Wairau Valley of the Marlborough region, New Zealand in the 1980’s and named the Estate after Mike’s mother Isabel. The mission that they successfully accomplished was to create ultra premium wines from the classic Kiwi grape varieties that grow so well in this region, but from one single estate rather than being a blend from across the area. The estate was sold in 2014 but the quality of wines has increased significantly, making this one of the go-to producers for great Sauvignon Blanc. In this part of Marlborough, ie the Wairau Valley and specifically the Omaka River, the climate is relatively cool and dry, and the vineyards are sheltered from extremes, meaning wines that are intense in aroma and full in body. The grapes are harvested in the cool of early morning, and then there is a short period of skin contact between the grape juice and skins, to extract precious Sauvignon Blanc flavour. The wine is then fermented in stainless steel, with a tiny percentage being fermented in large, French oak barrels to add a hint of spice complexity and smooth texture.
