Description
Pecorino is a fascinating Italian grape that was rescued from extinction, likely due to its ability to make lovely, lemony whites. It is delicious, and great for summer drinking and food-matching.
TASTING NOTE: Pale straw-yellow in colour. On the nose: aromatic, floral notes, with lemon and green apple aromas and mineral, saline hints too. On the palate: a medium-bodied palate with a mouthwatering, crisp feel to it, from its fresh acidity, dry finish and pithy, citrus flavour, plus a hint of lemon thyme/lemon verbena. There are also richer, almost-candied lemon and tangerine flavours, with a long, juicy finish and moderate alcohol of 12.5%. It has lovely depth of flavour and good structure; both of which mean great quality!
FOOD PAIRING, STORING & SERVICE: A great food wine! Jasci & Marchesani suggest trying it with fish-based starters, which sound good to us. Simple steamed or grilled fish would work well, or baked, meatier fish dishes with fennel and herbs. It would also work well with a burrata and tomato salad, or salads with melon and parma ham for a super alfresco meal. Drinking now, or keep till end of 2026. Best enjoyed somewhat chilled between 7 and 10 degrees.
ABOUT: Jasci & Marchesani are an excellent Organic winegrower in Chieti province, Abruzzo, on the east coast of central Italy (they’re cousins of the Jasci who make our delicious red Montepulciano d’Abruzzo). The company was founded by Sebastiano Jasci, who pioneered Organic viticulture back in 1960. Today, the 33-hectare estate is run by Sebastiano’s son Nicola and wife Federica, and sister-in-law Teresa, in the same ethos, with careful vine-growing to avoid chemical use, low yields, and a winery run using renewable energy.
