Red, Burgundy, France

The first iconic name one comes across while travelling south through the Cote de Nuits region of Burgundy, is ‘Gevrey-Chambertin’ This Pinot Noir produced by Joseph Drouhin is from some of the most spectacular vineyard regions in the world that dates back to 630AD!

TASTING NOTE: this is a powerful yet delicate wine with a beautiful ruby colour and intense fruit character including black cherry, blackberry and liquorice. There is an impressive subtlety to the use of oak within the wine, well integrated and helping develop additional complexity – sweet spice (nutmeg), leather and savoury notes of mushroom and gamey meats.

FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is superbly crafted with plenty of vibrant aromatic quality with a firm structure and a velvety texture. An incredibly versatile wine that compliments strong cheeses or game dishes and will certainly develop further with age. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 5 years.

ABOUT: Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negociant business which is now in the hands of his four great-grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic who each play a different role in helping to grow the family wine companies in Burgundy and USA. With almost 200 acres of vines in Burgundy, they organically farm their own vineyards and purchase grapes from leading growers in the Burgundy region.
