Description
This is a white wine from the Maconnais region in Burgundy, made entirely from Chardonnay. Often confused with Pouilly Fume – made from Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire. This is a seductive and excellent expression of the Chardonnay grape produced by Joseph Drouhin.
TASTING NOTE: A rich golden colour. On the nose: This has vibrant fruit characters of green apple and pear alongside refreshing citrus notes of lemon. On the palate: It’s medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel with savoury notes of almond and sweet spice including caramel and vanilla that lead to an elegant and lingering finish.13% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This style of wine is an ideal partner for cream-based dishes and meaty fish such as halibut. Try with pan-roasted halibut, with a creamy risotto, or with a spring vegetable quiche. Drink now or hold until winter 2025.
ABOUT: Joseph Drouhin, a Chablis native, arrived in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy in 1880 and founded the winery and negotiant business which is now in the hands of his four great-grandchildren – Philippe, Veronique, Laurent and Frederic who each play a different role in helping to grow the family wine companies in Burgundy and USA. With almost 200 acres of vines in Burgundy, they organically farm their own vineyards and purchase grapes from leading growers in the Burgundy region.
