Description
A classic white from the Piedmont region of Italy and the local Cortese grape, where La Giustiniana produces this wine from a single vineyard named ‘Lugarara’. Its rich, elegant wine is mouth-wateringly good with plenty of fine fruit and a long, zesty fresh finish.
TASTING NOTE: Vibrant yellow colour in the glass. On the nose: Delicate aromas of citrus and orchard fruits, with a hint of fresh dough. On the palate: Light to medium in body, crisp from its naturally firm acidity. But it’s not austere, with a lovely elegance and fruitiness along with its freshness, and more ripe lemon and apple fruit flavours on the long, dry finish. It’s unoaked and is all about the pure fruit character and refreshment! 13% alcohol by volume.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Gavi is one of the best wines we know for matching food, and particularly fish and seafood (it also goes well with poultry). For a vegetarian match, this would suit antipasti, particularly vegetable antipasti and artichokes or creamy mushrooms/risotto. Let the wine warm a little from the fridge as at 5 or 6 degrees, the acidity of Gavi can be a little firm! You can even decant it to mellow the wine slightly. Drink now or till summer 2026.
ABOUT: La Giustiniana is a large wine estate in the Rovereto di Gavi part of the Piedmont wine region, in the province of Alessandria. In 1625 the property passed to the Giustiniani family, hence the name; it’s one of the very oldest estates in the region. From there the family went on to build up the property considerably to over 100 hectares of vineyard land. In 2015 it was bought by Magda Pedrini and Stefano Massone who invested in the quality of the wines and the two ‘Cru’ vineyards Lugarara and Montessora (this wine is from the former). Today the wine is made by winemaker Cristian Pomo alongside wine consultant Donato Lanati.
