Description
One of our most popular reds, from The Douro Valley in Portugal, is made by the renowned estate of Quinta do Crasto. This is a lusciously smooth, juicy red is a brilliant wine for a party, a hearty meal or for sipping over a cool evening. A great BBQ wine too!
TASTING NOTE: A medium-deep ruby in colour with purple/black hints. On the nose: Fruity and fresh, full of ripe cherries, plums, blackberries, and a touch of herb too. On the palate: It’s full-bodied, juicy, and fruity. There are moderate tannins and acidity which support the wine in the background and provide excellent balance with the depth of the fruit. It is very easy to drink, smooth, moreish, and fruity with a long, supple, blackberry finish.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a delicious, bold, juicy red that is brilliant while sipped over a cooler evening, but as a food match, it works superbly with peppered steak or cottage pie. For a vegetable option, meaty grilled portobello mushrooms, with balsamic vinegar and/or soy sauce drizzle, on a bed of crisp greens. It’s ready to drink, no need to decant, or keep till winter 2027.
ABOUT: Quinta do Crasto is arguably the most famous producer from the Douro Valley wine region (where, traditionally, fortified wines have been made). They are a big estate owned by the Roquette family, with winemaker Manuel Lobo making mainly non-fortified red and white wines, including this delicious, very popular Douro Red. They are based on the ‘right bank’ of the Douro River, between the towns of Regua and Pinhao, overlooking steep terraces covered with vines that lead to the river. It’s a stunning sight!
