Description
Ridge’s Geyserville was first produced in 1966, and is a blend of grapes from three adjoining vineyards on dry stony soils in the Alexander Valley. The 2024 is lovely and rich from the warm conditions that year, with the impeccable balance of Ridge Vineyards, and the generous, ripe, rounded nature that Geyserville vineyard wines always show. It’s a very juicy blend of 71% Zinfandel, 19% Carignane, 8% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet, and is drinking well now (with decanting) but has lots of potential for the cellar.
TASTING NOTE: The 2024 Geyserville has attractive deep red/purple colour, with blackcurrant, pepper, graphite, blueberry and black cherry fragrance. On the palate, there are ample tannins and generous flavour, with 14.6% alcohol, but the black fruit core and rich, layered finish are what really impress. We thoroughly agree with Wine Spectator magazine, who hailed the ‘style and finesse’ in Geyserville 2024!
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: Ridge Vineyards suggest matching their lovely Geyserville wine with spiced turkey, duck confit, pulled pork or a squash, caramelized onion and thyme pizza, which sound great to us! It’s broachable now with decanting for an hour or two, or cellar up to ten years. We thoroughly agree with Wine Spectator magazine, who hailed the ‘style and finesse’ in Geyserville 2024!
ABOUT: Ridge Vineyards are based in the Santa Cruz mountains (South of San Francisco) and were established in 1962. Paul Draper took up the role of winemaker in 1969 and is still making wines at the winery to this day. Ridge, like other California estates, received almost instant praise in the world of wine after California performed so well in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting – beating some of France’s most revered wines.
