Description
From the dry, stony vineyards of Geyserville in the Alexander Valley, this 2021 is a delight, with powerful and seemingly endless flavour balanced by freshness from the natural acidity that Zinfandel (the majority grape) achieves here. There are hints of black cherry, cola, and lavender on the nose, a medium to full body and fine long finish, blending fruit flavours with nuances of mixed herbs and spices. This wine will continue to develop easily over the next 10 years, making a fascinating comparison with the Lytton Springs. A blend of 76% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 6% Petit Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouschet.
Ridge Vineyards based in the Santa Cruz mountains (South of San Francisco) was established in 1962. Paul Draper took up the role of winemaker in 1969 and is still making wines at the winery to this day. Ridge, like other California estates, received almost instant praise in the world of wine after California performed so well in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting – beating some of France’s most revered wines.
