Description
A multi-vintage Champagne from one of the oldest houses in the town of Reims. The reference to 245 is the number of blends they have made since their foundation in 1776. It’s 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot noir and 25% Meunier. Louis Roederer’s 245th blend takes advantage of a particularly remarkable 2020 harvest: a dry, continental year of perfect maturity that produced juicy, well-structured, aromatic grapes, resulting in dense, full-bodied wines with a perfect balance of substance and freshness. Collection 245 therefore offers us a complex symphony in a wine of remarkably generous and flavourful intensity.
TASTING NOTE: This is a true classic, with an elegant bouquet and rich creamy notes across the palate. On the nose there are notes of citrus fruits, acacia blossom and white peach. The palate rounds out with hints of toasted nuts adding an attractive softness to the blend and some smoky notes. The finish brings forward baked apples, hazelnuts and ripe red fruits.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This Champagne pairs well with shellfish, rice and fish.
ABOUT: Louis Roederer is a Champagne house who have been making great Champagne since 1776 and are based in Reims. The business is still family-owned; Frederic Rouzaud currently manages it with Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon managing the vineyards and making the wines. They are well respected for making delicious Champagnes, including a collaboration with Philippe Starck which is one to look out for, but also for biodynamic farming across their 240 hectares, eschewing the use of chemicals in the vineyards and winery as much as possible.
