Description
Not a sophisticated wine, its juicy nature is perfect for a midweek drink or matching with hearty Italian fare. An excellent blend of both French and Italian red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Syrah and Merlot produced by the Antinori family, one of the region’s most revered and oldest-standing wine families.
TASTING NOTE:Bright ruby-red colour in the glass. On the nose: Fresh, simple and fruity with black and red berries, particularly cherries, and a hint of vanilla and spice. On the palate: It has a medium-bodied, smooth-textured palate given its soft, ripe tannins. And it’s very well balanced with medium acidity. A flavoursome wine with a cherry-scented finish.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a juicy, fruity wine that would perfectly accompany a hearty Italian sauce such as a ragu. Try it with venison ragu and pappardelle, or spicy sausage on pizza. For a vegetable match, it would be great with roasted root vegetables or mushroom risotto. No need to decant. It’s ready to drink now till the end of 2025.
ABOUT: The Santa Cristina Red was released for the first time in 1946. It’s made by the Antinori family who are hugely influential in Tuscany and have been making wine there for over six centuries. They have many great vineyards across Tuscany, including the famed Tignanello estate in the Chianti area, Guado al Tasso in Bolgheri plus many others, and this juicy red, which is made at their winery in Cortona, close to Siena. Today Albiera Antinori is the President with her two sisters both working in the business, alongside their father Marchese Piero Antinori.
