Description

A fresh and rounded Pinot Blanc from the Alsace region of France, to the west of the border with Germany, close to Strasbourg. The region is famous for its gastronomy and this wine in particular is a great food match. Schlumberger are a pioneering Organic producer, one of the largest estates in the region, run by Severine Schlumberger. This wine is a blend of 70% Pinot Blanc and 30% Auxerrois, and has aromas of orchard fruits such as pear and apple plus some floral notes of jasmine. It is medium in body with moderate acidity; it’s dry for an Alsace wine but with a hint of sweetness on the finish. A perfect introduction to the great wines of Alsace as it is aromatic but not to the extent of an Alsatian Riesling or Gewürztraminer.

Alsace is an unusual wine region as in some ways it has more in common with Germany than France; in fact there is a long history between the two countries concerning this region. It’s a great area to visit, due to the beautiful countryside and picturesque towns that are sheltered by the Vosges Mountains, and also to its focus on fantastic food and wine, with plenty of cheese, meat and vegetable dishes that combine some of the best of German and French-style cooking. Severine Schlumberger is one of the best known producers, making a range of wines under the Les Princes Abbes label from their vineyard in Guebwiller, up to an impressive range of Grands Crus. A versatile wine, fruity, an easy match for green salads, asparagus or omelette and salad. Serve chilled; drink now or until end 2025.
