Description
This is a superb Italian red wine made from the local Italian grape varieties Corvina (45%), Corvinone (40%), Rondinella (15%) From Ca’Rugate, in Veneto, in North-east Italy. This Valpolicella isn’t a complex wine, and that’s the beauty of it, extremely easy to drink and can be served with a slight chill!
TASTING NOTE: A pretty ruby colour. On the nose: It has elegant aromas of cherry, sour cherry and red berries, with mixed herb notes too. On the palate: a light to medium-bodied wine with supple, light tannins and plenty of character. It is delightfully refreshing with good acidity and well-integrated, moderate alcohol. Despite being a light, juicy wine, it is long on flavour and extremely easy to drink.
FOOD PAIRING, STORING AND SERVICE: This is a great red to serve with appetizers and canapes as it is not too heavy. It can also be chilled slightly down if you would like a fresher, crisp style of red, or when it’s hot in summer. For a vegan match try it with fried courgette blossoms. It’s also a great pizza match; try it slightly chilled with a hearty tomato pizza, it’s delicious! Drink now or it will keep well till Spring 2026.
ABOUT: Ca’Rugate is an estate owned by the Michele Tessari family in the Veneto part of Northeast Italy. They have vineyards (just over 200 acres) in Soave and Valpolicella. The name Rugate refers to the large hill near the winery that has distinctive dark, volcanic soils. The family make Soave, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella and other wines, all typical of this region. Their Rio Albo is a delicious, light red wine that has a moreish juicy palate, that you can drink again and again, and is a great food match!
