Description

This was the standout wine at our tasting with the Perrin family last year. It’s from the vineyard Cru of Vinsobres, which is arguably the best but least-well known vineyard site in the Southern Rhone Valley. It is located 40 km north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape at an altitude of 300m and has a  relatively cool climate, which is perfect for the Syrah grape variety. Les Hauts de Julien is the name of the individual old plot of vines (around 90 years old) co-planted in Syrah and Grenache. The result is a unique, deeply-coloured, rich, flavoursome wine that has all the depth and concentration of Chateauneuf-du-Pape as well as the firm structure. For drinking now, it should be decanted for a couple of hours, but it has the staying power and intensity to cellar well for at least 10-12 years. 15% alcohol

Famille Perrin is a leading organic wine grower of the Southern Rhone Valley and the family behind the famous Chateau du Beaucastel Chateauneuf du-Pape. They occupy the region’s best terroirs and their values have given them a worldwide reputation for excellence. Run by Francois and his brother Jean-Pierre after taking over their father’s legacy, along with their children Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cecile, Charles, Matthieu, and Cesar, the 5th generation.
